Taking on the roles of Aisling and Elizabeth will be Kate Gilmore and India Mullen.
Kate’s recent theatre credits include The Great Gatsby and The Snapper (both at The Gate), as well as Town is Dead (Abbey Theatre) and Little Gem (Breda Cashe Productions).
India can be most recently seen in the BBC production of Little Women, and Warner Brothers / DC production Krypton. Her theatre credits include The Critic (Rough Magic) The Wise Wound (Smock Alley) and The Eurydice Project (Lee Wilson)
Maeve Binchy is one of those rare writers – like Dickens, Wilde, Shaw, Behan – whose work springs from their larger-than-life personalities. Their unique voices are captured in their work. This novel was ahead of its time. Maeve highlighted some of the major social issues we are still dealing with today, all through the prism of Maeve Binchy’s trademark wisdom, warmth, and humour.
Light A Penny Candle, is a tale of an enduring life-long friendship which asks some burning questions – a back-street abortion? A murder cover-up?
Aisling and Elizabeth have to survive DeValera’s Ireland, their raging hormones, and the struggle for independence in a world at war. Through it all, they discover that there is no right and wrong in this world, there is only what is right for those you love.
This is Maeve Binchy as you know her, and Maeve Binchy as you don’t.
